How it works

  1. Upload a song

An MP3 or WAV from your computer or phone, or paste a YouTube link.

  2. We take the drums out

An AI model separates the drums from everything else: two tracks, about a minute for a full song.

  3. Play along

Mute the drums and take the drummer's seat. The drums-only track is there when you want to check the original part, and a click is one press away.

What a drumless track is, and where to get one

A drumless track is a song with the drums taken out, so a drummer can play the part. Call it a drum backing track or a play-along, it is the closest thing to sitting in with the band: the song does not wait for you, the tempo is the real one, and the arrangement tells you where the fills go. Drummers get them in three ways.

The trade-off is honest: a track mixed without drums will always sound cleaner than one where an AI model pulled them out afterwards. What you get here instead is the song you actually want, today, with the original part next to it. How to practice with a drumless track

A drumless track is not a backing track you noodle over. It is the song with a hole the exact shape of the drum part, and the fastest way to learn a song is to fill that hole a section at a time.

Listen with the drums in first

Play the track once with both channels up. Follow the original drummer through the form: where the verse opens up, where the fills land, what the hi-hat does under the chorus. You are building the map before you drive it.

Add a click and read the tempo

Press Add a click. The tool finds the beats and downbeats, shows the BPM, and lays a click over the song that is louder on the one. If the tempo is out of reach, take the groove to the metronome at 20 percent slower until it is clean, then come back to the song at full speed. To slow the song itself without the pitch dropping, the slow-down apps comparison checks twelve apps that do it.

Mute the drums and take the seat

Mute Drums, keep Everything else. Play the section you mapped. When it falls apart, drag the waveform back and play that section again, not the whole song. The track will not slow down for you, which is the point: this is how it feels to hold the band together.

Check against the original

Bring the drums back in at low volume and play along with the original drummer. Where you both land the same, the part is yours. Where you drift, you have found tomorrow's exercise. For a routine that turns this into a daily habit, see the drum practice system.

Why we built it

Drumless Tracks is an experiment from the Upbeat lab, and the first step of SongMap, a project to turn any song into a drum lesson at your level. To read a drum part, SongMap first has to separate it from the song. That separation is exactly what makes a drumless track, so we shipped this half first, for free, to learn what drummers do with it.

If you want to learn the song you just uploaded, the button under the player puts you on the SongMap Early Access list. It is the one number we watch on this page. The rest of the lab is a click away.

Playing along is just the start

Drum Coach gives you AI-generated practice plans, real-time feedback and structured lessons, so the songs you play along to become songs you can play.

FAQ

Questions about drumless tracks.

Yes. One song a day without an email, three a day with one, so it stays quick for everyone. No account, nothing to install.

Upload the MP3 or WAV, wait about a minute, and press play. You get two tracks: the song without its drums, and the drums on their own. Mute one, turn the other up, and add a click if you want the beat spelled out.

When the YouTube option is on, yes: paste the link to one video and we fetch the audio and treat it like an upload. YouTube changes often and we cap it daily, so the link box is off at times. Upload the file instead when it is.

Ready-made tracks are re-recorded or mixed without the drums, so they sound cleaner, but you get their catalog. Here you bring the song you're actually learning, and you keep the original drummer on a second track to check against.

Moises, LALAL and the stem splitters split a song into four or more stems for any musician, and most add tempo and key change, some of it on their free plans. This tool does one job: drums out, everything else in, free for full songs, no account, a click that follows the song, and both tracks to download. If you need a slower tempo or four stems, those apps are the better tool today.

Yes. Download gives you the drumless track and the drums-only track as MP3, or your mix as a WAV: what you hear, with your volumes and the click. The tracks on the page are deleted within 6 hours; the files you saved are yours. Your recent songs stay listed under the tool while their links last.

It's processed for you and nobody else. We don't use it for anything else, and the file and both tracks are deleted within 6 hours.

MP3 or WAV, up to 60 MB and 10 minutes long.

Clean enough to practice with. On dense mixes you may still hear a bit of the drums, and cymbals are the hardest part to remove.

Bring music you own or have permission to use; you confirm that with one tick before your first song. We process it for you only, never publish or share it, and delete it within hours. The full text is two short pages: Copyright and your rights, and How we handle your song.
